FAQ

Common questions

The questions we are asked most, answered plainly. Still unsure? Get in touch and we will help.

What does a landscape architect actually do?

We design the outdoor parts of a project as carefully as the building — the layout, levels, structures, materials, planting and lighting — and we document it so it can be built well. We think about how a space will be used and how it will mature, not just how it looks on day one.

When should we bring you in?

As early as possible. The best landscapes come from the building and the garden being designed together, so ideally we join when the architecture is still being resolved. That said, we regularly come in later and make a real difference.

Do you work with our architect and builder?

Yes, almost always. We collaborate with your architect, builder, engineer and other consultants so the landscape is coordinated with everything else rather than added at the end.

How much does a project cost?

Design fees depend on the size and complexity of the site and how far you want us involved. We will give you a clear fee proposal after an initial conversation, and we are honest early about likely construction budgets so there are no surprises.

How long does it take?

Concept and design typically run over a few months; construction and planting depend on the scope and the season. We map out a realistic timeline at the start and keep you updated as it progresses.

Do you provide planting plans and a maintenance regime?

Yes. We provide detailed planting plans and schedules, plus a maintenance regime for the establishment years so the garden has the best chance to thrive.

Can you help with a resource consent?

Yes. For sensitive or larger sites we prepare landscape and visual assessments and the consent drawings councils expect to see, and we can guide the staging from concept to construction.

What areas do you work in?

We are based in Grey Lynn, Auckland, and work across the wider region and nationwide for the right projects. If you are unsure whether we can help, just ask.
